Mercy - 21/21
August 11th, 2019

All instrumental/vocal performances by Lucas Tennen

That’s a wrap.

A year has flown by and somewhere along the way I found the time to release 21 songs. It’s strange to talk about it now, because how I’m feeling about the project, the motivation behind it and what I’m learning is completely different from where I’m standing that any other time since last year. I’m going to try to tell you about it... I’m going to do my best. More than learning about the technique of making music, any of the theory or minutia, I learned about the process of making music and the role that commitments play in structuring a life in art. This was a big commitment. At times I felt trapped by it, and angry with myself for leaping before I looked into something that was taking away from my friends and other passions. At times I felt thankful that I had an end goal and a pursuit, to give the scribbles in my notebook the gusto to be seen all the way through to a fully recorded song in record time. I was very proud of a bunch. I resented the time constraint that led to others that I’d rather sweep under the rug. I’m proud of myself and this body of work, I knew this day would come last year when I started, but now it’s here and just so damn crazy. Thank you to everyone who stuck with it, or even just dropped in for a song or two (I know it was hard to keep up, it was a lot of songs) And an extra thanks to those of you who really kept on me. There were times when the messages and reminders really got on my nerves, but it wasn’t really me being mad at you, it was me being mad at myself because I didn’t think I could live up and follow through, but ultimately it happened because of those people so I just wanted to say I appreciate you, you know who you are.

Take care everybody, you’ll be hearing from me much less. I’m excited to not do this anymore!

Cheers,

P.S You’ll notice that there are actually only 20 songs on the bandcamp. We needed to remove Vicious because we used it to apply for a grant and the bureaucracy of the matter says it can’t be public. BUT I DID ACTUALLY RELEASE 21 SONGS. If you do REALLY want it, mssg me and I’ll drop you a DL link ;)

lyrics

Nobody Cares
About this place
The cemetary bears the name
On every face

In your silver mirror
The poet's grand review
The torn up, tearstained truth
That we're kicking up dirt for something to do

Oh Ahh
Singing mercy, mercy me
Got nowhere to be
And got no one you're trying to see

Oh Ahh
I'm gonna break it clear one day
And mercy, mercy me
I'll hear them say
